Before the shoe sole cracking incident of yesterday I had planned to ride Sa Calobra today. However, after purchasing new shoes and cleats (and socks!), I decided to do a smaller and less strenuous ride to ensure that they were set up something like they are supposed to be. The last thing I wanted was to injure myself within the first week.
Cala Sant Vincenç
Cala Sant Vincenç is a small resort on the north coast of Mallorca, a short cycle ride from Port de Pollença. Looking at a map, you may be fooled in to thinking that there is a direct route between the two locations. Speaking from experience – do not attempt this! Instead follow the route around puig del Vilar like I did today.
The resort is normally packed with tourists who frequent the many beaches and restaurants. Today, all the roads and the beaches were eerily quiet because of the pandemic. In fact, the main beach and sea were occupied by nobody.
Muro
The route to Muro was mostly along quiet lanes largely recommended to me via Komoot. The relief is mostly flat with only a couple of small rises as you approach Muro itself. There is a good selection of bars and cafes here should you need them, including a nice bakery. To the west of town is a small terrace (Terrasse in Muro) with a nice view towards the mountains and Platja de Muro.
Alcúdia
Last night I did some research and the best venues for craft beer (that appeared to be open) were in Alcúdia. I had consumed an embarrassingly low amount of beers so far, and I wanted to rectify this today. Google soon told me that the town has a local brewery called ‘Beer Lovers’. Whilst the main taproom was closed, I singled out a couple of places selling their beer.
My Spanish is not that hot. I thought I was ordering potatoes (chips) to go with my burger but I got potatoes in a soup… and then I thought I ordered a burger. I did expect a bun.
I’ve got to say that I feel like I struck a better balance today between cycling and beer drinking.
