NOTE: there is a ROAD CLOSURE in Denholme. You may or may not be able to get through on/with your bike. The route below avoids the closed road completely:
If it were me, I would ride the diversion on the outbound journey because the penalty for doing so is relatively small. It would be an even bigger distance penalty if I couldn’t get through and had to turn around.
For the return journey, the diversion starts at the road closure itself. I would make a judgement then.
If you’d like to try your luck with getting through the road closure on/with your bike, then the route you need is:
Ride north from Hipperholme on an incrediby scenic route around the Yorkshire Dales. Organised by the Halifax Imperial Wheelers cycling club, the route has been designed to pass three landmarks which represent the club colours of blue, white and gold. In a nod to the heritage of the Halifax Imperial Wheelers, all three of these locations are pubs – though to keep this ride suitable for all it’s not been mandated to stop at these. To be classified as a finisher, please remember that you need to make it back to Hipperholme before 21:28.
Parking, toilets and secure-ish bag drop is available at the start.
The route is advisory. This means you are free to deviate from the route posted as much as you want, provided you visit the locations listed below in the correct order, and within the time limit.
1. Halton East (there will be a question printed on the brevet card. You will find the answer to this by visiting here)
2. Ilkley (recommended stop: Esso/Tesco Express petrol station, but you can visit any cafe or shop of your choice)
3. Masham (recommended stop: Co-op supermaket or the Black Sheep brewery or any cafe)
4. Swinithwaite (recommended stop: Berry’s Cafe)
All four locations are marked on the RideWithGPS route file above with a brown icon. You are not obligated to visit anywhere else except the four places listed above.
The map also highlights some places to stop and eat should the need arise.
If you don’t wish to keep hold of receipts (or you wish to eat somewhere different to the places listed above), you will be allowed to ‘check in’ at the locations listed above using the ‘e-brevet’ app and the GPS provided by your smartphone.
